Delete Lawz-My Next Hearing is in JULY
In this newest call from behind bars, imprisoned activist and journalist Chille DeCastro provides his latest incarceration update. DeCastro, who is currently serving a 6-month sentence in the Clark County Detention Center for the "crime" of filming police, refuses to let jail walls silence his calls for justice and reform.
Despite being rendered "helpless" by his wrongful incarceration, DeCastro remains defiant, issuing an impassioned call to action. He urges his supporters and followers of the "DeleteLaws" movement to keep the flame burning bright in his absence.
From his cell, DeCastro lays out the next steps in his legal fight – an appeal hearing on July 10th, potential appeals to the Nevada Supreme Court and federal courts, and not backing down until the case reaches the United States Supreme Court if necessary. However, this battle for vindication of his First Amendment rights as a cop watcher and journalist comes at a massive financial burden.
With a conviction he calls "preposterous beyond the pale," DeCastro makes clear this is about much more than just his own case – it's about protecting every American's ability to legally film police without retaliation. He vows that even from behind bars, he will not quit or back down in the larger fight to end qualified immunity and reform a system of policing and jurisprudence he claims is rooted in racism and oppression.
