Large Disturbance at Area Parks
On 6/19/2023 at approximately 8:00pm, Brooklyn Park officers responded to Noble Sports Park after being advised by the Hennepin County Sheriffs deputies that several hundred juveniles were being dispersed from the Elm Creek Reserve in Maple Grove. Sheriffs deputies had overheard that they were going to re-locate at Noble Sports Park in Brooklyn Park. Brooklyn Park officers observed and dispersed hundreds of juveniles from the Noble Sports Park and Kwik Trip gas station. However, while officers were able to disperse the large crowd from forming at Noble Sports Park, they gathered at Central Park. Officers monitored the crowd, and after it was observed that fights were breaking out and the crowd was becoming disorderly, they were dispersed. One juvenile was assaulted and was self transported to a local hospital. A second juvenile was hit by a vehicle and transported to a local hospital. Brooklyn Park officers, along with the assistance of Hennepin County Sheriffs deputies and a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter were able to eventually disperse the crowd from Central Park.
Shots Fired
On 6/19/2023 at approximately 10:44pm, Brooklyn Park officers responded to Papa John's 4610 85th Ave N regarding shots fired. Brooklyn Park officers, as well as Hennepin County deputies were already in the area dispersing a large crowd from Central Park and heard the shots. It was determined that while several rounds were fired, no one was hit. Officers located several shell casings and bullet holes that hit the Papa John's and Speedy Market building. This incident remains under investigation.
